Non-Embryonic Stem Cell Research is a Breakthrough!
Non-Embrionic Stem Cell research appears to be more stable and negates eithical and political issus.
This is a breakthrough in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, a disorder of the brain and nervous system that progresses with the loss of dopaminergic neurons. Instead of replacing those neurons with embryonic stem cells, scientists are reprogramming a patient’s own skin cells into “induced pluripotent stem cells” or IPSCs. In other words, common skin cells are transformed in the lab into highly potent stem cells, negating the ethical and political issues that have long plagued stem cell research.
Summit 4 Stem Cell’s Mission (www.summit4stemcell.org) is to Raise Funding to Support Non-Embryonic Stem Cell research and support a first pilot project of implanting these Non-Embryonic Stem cells into Parkinsons’ Patients to hopefully cure Parkinson and other Neurological Diseases.
There should be a very broad application to a variety of diseases, such as neurodegenerative diseases, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, spinal cord injuries, macular degeneration and glaucoma.
